the 1900's. Aldo Leopold is credited for promoting restoration

Restoration is the repair of damages done on the environment. The purpose is to initiate or accelerate the recovery of a landscape or recreate the a landscape after an natural or human disturbance. Attempts at restoration may replicate a pre-disturbance ecosystem or to create a new ecosystem all together. Restoration attempts call for the use of native species.
